Purpose - The literature presents a number of different methods and practices for the facilitation of organizational innovation capabilities. Less attention has been paid to indicating the actual impacts of these methods on different aspects of innovation capability. The current study focuses on this issue by examining three methods developed to facilitate organizational innovation capabilities and their effects on different aspects of innovation capabilities.Design/methodology/approach - The study utilizes the multiple-case study approach, focusing on the effects of the Innovation Handbook, Theatre-based methods and Innovation Session on innovation capability and how these effects appear in different organizational contexts. The essential issues related to the positive effects of the studied methods on innovation capability are explored.Originality/value - The study contributes to the literature of Doing-Using-Interacting processes by stating that it is possible to develop the different dimensions of innovation capability with the Handbook of Innovation, Innovation Session and Theatre-based methods. The factors that enable the most effective and sustainable results of the examined methods are presented.Practical implications - The outcome of the study helps the managers of organizations to select the most suitable method for the development of innovation capability. This selection depends on the aspect of the innovation capability that the organization wishes to develop. The study also presents the important issues that should be taken into account when developing innovation capability.
