Dr. Rowe is a member of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Alberta and a clinical Emergency Physician at the University of Alberta Hospital, both in Edmonton, Alberta. He obtained his MD from the University of Ottawa in 1984, and completed training in Family and Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa in 1987. Dr. Rowe’s research training is in Clinical Epidemiology from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and his interests include systematic reviews, clinical trials, airway diseases (asthma, COPD, community acquired pneumonia), and injury prevention. He was the Research Director of the Division/Department of Emergency Medicine from 1997 to 2012 and was appointed Professor in 2003. In April of 2001 and 2006, Dr. Rowe was awarded a 21st Century Tier II Canada Research Chair in Emergency Airway Diseases, a salary award which runs for 5 years. In 2012, he was awarded a Tier I Canada Research Chair in Evidence-Based Emergency Medicine. Dr. Rowe contributes to the Airways Review Group (www.cochrane-airways.ac.uk) of the Cochrane Collaboration as a Co-editor and as an author and reviewer. Dr. Rowe is also the Chair of the CAEP Research Consortium, a network of Emergency Physicians with an interest in multi-centered research collaboration (www.caep.ca/rc). He is a Senior Associate Editor of the Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine and the lead author of the text book entitled Evidence-Based Emergency Medicine. In 2010, he assumed the role of Associate Dean (Clinical Research) for the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. He is the recipient of numerous teaching and community service awards. Finally, he is cross-appointed in the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta.
