For sleep scheduling in wireless sensor networks, excessive information exchange among sensor nodes brings significant energy consumption. A herringbone formation of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarm imitating the flight mode of geese is adopted to collect data while assisting sensor nodes in achieving state transition between work and sleep. A UAV swarm assisted sleep scheduling algorithm in wireless sensor networks (USAS) is proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed USAS algorithm can effectively extend the network lifetime and maximize the energy efficiency of UAV swarm.
