Generation Schedule Model Considering Secondary Frequency Regulation Unit Selection

The randomness and intermittence of new energy output, combined with load forecasting errors, bring great challenges to the generation schedule. To consume new energy as much as possible, the output of new energy and load curve are combined into an equivalent load curve. The equivalent load curve is decomposed into a long-term fluctuation load component and a short-term fluctuation load component by the EMD method. The uncertainty interval of the short-term load fluctuation component is calculated according to the historical new energy output and load data, which is used to construct a quantitative unit selection model of secondary frequency regulation. The long-term load fluctuation component is used to build the unit commitment model. The proposed method is verified with the IEEE RTS-96 test system. The results show that the frequency regulation units can be selected according to the uncertainty of new energy output and load in the equivalent load curve. The generation schedule cannot only meet the economy of power system operation but also the frequency stability of the power grid.
