摘要
Numerous undesirable events on the modern power systems such as abrupt changes in the network configuration may lead to serious violations of operational constraints. These violations cause a series of disruptions that eventually lead to a partial or total blackout. Any disruption resulting from the system’s failure is known as a contingency. Contingency analysis (CA) provides the system operator about the system status. The contingency ranking in this paper is accomplished by two methods. The first one is accomplished by calculating three types of performance indices: the active power performance index (PIp), the voltage performance index (PIv), and the overall performance index (OPI) for each line outage. The second method is to rank contingencies by comparing their loadability to the system’s maximum loadability. The system’s loadability is used to study the financial effects of the worst-case scenario of contingencies. The purpose of this paper is to assess and rank all power system failures and to remedy the most severe contingencies using the loadability method. The proposed method is compared to the OPI ranking technique. This work is implemented on the IEEE 6 bus test system using MATLAB Simulink environment. The findings demonstrate that corrective action with the capacitor bank tool is economically beneficial in the event of a contingency.
