Virtual environment and the professional projections of student teachers in Uruguay

This study aimed to identify the perceptions about the teaching dynamics in virtual environments and the professional projections of the group of students who studied, in 2020, the teaching career in the blended mode at the Teacher Training Institute of Uruguay. A mixed study was carried out, with data extracted from an online survey distributed to all the students involved, three focus groups, and four in-depth interviews. This group of future teachers, in the exercise of their profession in Secondary Education, identify a teaching role strongly associated with the integral attention of students in a virtual environment, oriented to generate an affective bond over specific disciplinary aspects. They perceive an accentuated social devaluation of teaching and half of them project themselves professionally outside the educational field.
