Gain and Directivity Enhancement of mm-wave MIMO Array for 5G Networks

For 5G wireless applications, a single-patch antenna with a ring-shaped slot and a $1 \times 8$ Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna array is proposed. The substrate is comprised of FR4 material, and it has a dielectric constant of 4.4 and a thickness of 1 mm. A very small rectangular microstrip patch antenna with measurements of 1.977 mm by 3.5 mm by 01 mm is used in the proposed MIMO antenna array. For resonating frequency, performance metrics such as return loss, bandwidth, antenna gain, antenna efficiency, and VSWR are computed. The proposed MIMO antenna array has a return loss of less than -10 dB and resonates at 26 GHz frequency. The proposed MIMO array has a maximum possible antenna gain directivity of 7.59 dB respectively for the resonant frequency and an antenna efficiency of 90 %. The VSWR for the MIMO array lies between 0 to 2. This proposed antenna array might be appropriate for a variety of high-frequency applications because of its improved qualities.
