This paper provides a methodology for the determination of the location and dimensioning for a cluster containing Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS), Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The methodology aims to optimize system security from the network operator’s point of view, while also considering potential location preferences from the EVCS promoter. The siting process is carried out using a Nodal Load Allocation algorithm, which iteratively increases the load at each candidate bus to obtain the maximum admissible load. The BESS is dimensioned using the Evolutionary Particle Swarm Optimization (EPSO) method. The methodology and the tools are tested through the simulation of a medium voltage network from SimBench. Similarly, the representative load and generation profiles used for the analysis are obtained through the use of clustering techniques from the whole year’s net load. The proposed methodology provides an effective tool for the problem associated with the determination of the location and dimensioning aggregated clusters of EVCS, RES and BESS, which can help network operators to avoid overloads while maximizing local renewable energy integration.
