Investigation on Inconel 625 using MAF and chemically assisted MAF

To fulfil the technological requirements of industries, various new alloys and materials were developed throughout the years. Inconel 625 has exceptional materialistic characteristics and it is used in a variety of industrial applications including solar power plants, petrochemical, marine, aerospace. Because of its exceptional attributes, Inconel 625 alloyis tough to machine and polish with traditional methods. In present work, both Magnetic abrasive finishing (MAF) and chemically assisted MAF (CMAF) are utilized to polish the inner surface of Inconel 625 tubes. Experiments have been designed utilizing RSM (Response Surface Methodology). Weight% of abrasives and surface rotation speed and Process time have significant impact on material removal (MR). Processing time (75 min.) is the major contributing factor for enhancement in MR. The rotational speed 270 RPM and Weight% of abrasive 35 % also recommended for better MR. The investigations revealed that better MR is achieved in CMAF process as compare to simple MAF process. The maximum MR value 0.7 g in MAF and 1.6 g in CMAF is achieved. The surface texture of finished tubes has been also analyzed using SEM.
