摘要
MultiExplorer is a tool proposed to support research in the field of processor architectures' design space exploration (DSE). Many studies were published in international conferences and scientific journals, using MultiExplorer in a range of applications and design exploration goals, from mitigating the dark silicon on multicore and many-core architectures to performing DSE on systems based on general-purpose computing on graphics processing units and cloud (virtual machine) systems. This paper presents recent efforts focused on enhancing the MultiExplorer DSE tool for teaching and learning dark silicon-aware design space exploration on multicore architectures, including a case study using the tool as an educational resource for extra-curricular training in the context of undergraduate Computer Science and Computer Engineering programs in Brazil. We justify these efforts because, despite the recommendation to include DSE in the curriculum of engineering and computer science programs by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), references to this topic in the curricula of those programs in Brazil still need to be made available.
