Comparison and Analysis of Photovoltaic Load Shedding and Frequency Regulation Strategies

With the rapid development of photovoltaic (PV) technology, the global installed capacity is continuously increasing. However, several considerations regarding PV grid integration exist, such as maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control for PV electricity generation and power balancing during grid integration. This paper systematically introduces the principles of PV MPPT control and methods for load frequency control in PV grid integration, including droop control, virtual synchronous machine-based virtual inertia control, and DC-side capacitance-based virtual inertia control. To validate the performance, we built a simulation model using Simulink and conducted simulations under large and small disturbances in grid load. Based on the simulation results, each of the three methods has its characteristics and needs to be combined in practical applications.
