Research on Relay Protection of 10kV Distribution Network Considering the Operating Characteristics of Virtual Power Plant

A virtual power plant aggregates many distributed resources. Its operation mode is complex and changeable. The distribution network with virtual power plants has great differences in power flow distribution under different operation modes, and the short-circuit current flowing through local relays changes frequently. It is difficult for traditional relay protection to adapt. Therefore, this paper first models the inverter interface distributed generation (IIDG) aggregated by virtual power plants. Then the phase difference between the fault component of the positive sequence voltage of the bus and the fault component of the positive sequence current of each feeder is used to construct a protection scheme. This scheme is not affected by the operation mode of the virtual power plant and can be accurately located under various fault conditions. Finally, a simulation example is built using PSCAD to verify the above method.
