Optimization and Comparative Study of Dual-PM Machine by Using Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel Stator Teeth with Different Proportion

The dual-permanent-magnet machine (DPMM) is one type of machines with large torque density among the flux-modulation machine, but its core loss is high due to high harmonic contents. To reduce core loss and improve motor performance, a novel DPMM with stator teeth partially composed of grain-oriented (GO) silicon steel is proposed in this paper. The GO is used to replace the original non-oriented (NO) silicon steel sheet for the stator teeth. There are two ways to replace stator teeth, which can replace half or all stator teeth or stator teeth with different proportions in different positions. The torque, torque ripple, efficiency, and material price cost of the GO machine are optimized by Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA). The optimized results show that the core loss of the motor is decreased, the torque density is increased and the efficiency is improved after replacing the stator teeth. The results is also proved by comparative study of the proposed GO DPMM and the NO DPMM.
