Torque Performance Optimization Design for a Dual-Stator Low-Speed High-Torque Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine

This paper presents the design, analysis and optimization of a 50kW dual-stator low-speed high-torque permanent magnet synchronous motor (LHPMSM). Dual-stator LHPMSMs with different pole/slot combinations and a conventional LHPMSM are compared in terms of electromagnetic performance by 2D finite element method (FEM). Dual-stator LHPMSM with 27 slots performs best in the performance of electromagnetic torque compared with the other three. According to the power ratio, the inner and outer unit motors are optimized in sequence, using a coupling method of the kriging response surface model and the Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA). The result of the optimization shows that the torque ripple of the motor is significantly reduced, while the average torque barely decreases.
