摘要
Geological storage of CO2 has already been undertaken in a variety of different reservoir types. Some have similarities to reservoirs, which are already well understood by the oil and gas industry, and some are completely different. In this chapter, all the main geological storage types are introduced: saline aquifers, depleted oil and gas fields, and mineralization in basalts. A key case study is provided for each type of store, highlighting the key benefits and challenges to be considered for each type of storage development. The key areas of project development for CO2 storage are also covered in this chapter. Firstly, an overview of how to characterize a site is discussed, where a workflow is provided, from the first key decisions on how to choose a site all the way through to how sites are developed ready to apply for a storage permit. Risk management and monitoring of a site are also discussed at the end of this chapter, discussing what the key safety concerns are for a storage site and how these risks can be completely avoided or minimized to an acceptable level.
