Multicriteria Evaluation of Reinforced Concrete Slabs Using Analytical Hierarchy Process

The typology regarding slabs to be adopted in a building is usually chosen by the design engineer based on the structural performance of each type of system depending on the limitations imposed by the architectural design, as well as the cost related to the amount of material, concrete, and steel used in each system. Due to the technical attributions of this professional, this decision process does not consider the other aspects that impact the construction, such as the productivity of each system, the aesthetics and appearance of the slab, the residue generation of each system, and the thermal/acoustic comfort. Seeking to meet all the demands cited, this paper pursues the development of a multicriteria method to assist the stakeholder in deciding the type of structural system to be adopted for the slabs that best fit the needs and objectives of the project in question. To this end, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was adopted with information gathered from bibliographic research of articles that developed works related to the subject, the Delphi Method of research with experts, and the usage of a machine learning applied on a dataset from more than 2000 slabs already constructed.
