摘要
In this chapter, Michael Brennan and Lyda Patricia Sabogal Paz examine the multiple interpretations of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in higher education. The different meanings of the word sustainability in different languages are illustrated. In summary, the multiple definitions, approaches, and frameworks associated with ESD highlight the limitations of partial and discipline-based approaches to sustainability. To overcome these limitations, it is argued that transdisciplinarity must become the lens through which the relevance of all disciplinary research and teaching relating to sustainability needs to be understood.
