Virtual Reality for medical education

Virtual reality (VR) has a great potential to provide realistic and motivating learning experiences. With VR a teacher has complete control over the stimuli provided to medical students or younger physicians. Anatomical regions with a high density of intertwined structures thus may be explored. Also challenging interventions and surgeries may be trained based on a variety of cases, including the handling of complications. VR-based systems even enable a collaboration between students or members of a surgical team. We present selected concepts for VR-based anatomy and surgery training.
