摘要
This study aims to describe the current rotation experience, resident satisfaction, and self-reported knowledge base on REI-related topics. A REDCap survey was sent to program coordinators of all ACGME-accredited OBGYN residency programs to distribute to their current residents, fellows, and recent graduates from 2018-2022. The survey queried current and recent trainees regarding individual and program demographics, description of their REI resident rotation, self-reported knowledge base of REI-related topics, and overall satisfaction with the rotation. One hundred seventy-one physicians (73.1% current OBGYN residents, 26.9% recent graduates) completed the survey between March and April 2023. Nearly all respondents (97%) reported their program had a formal REI rotation, but only half (50.2%) reported experiencing a formal didactic component during their rotation. Forty percent reported rotating in an academic practice, 43% in a private practice, and 16% in both an academic and private practice. Twenty-five participants (14.6%) reported their REI knowledge base as “Poor” or “Very Poor” and 83 (48.5%) reported it was “Adequate”. Rotating for greater than 45 days (p=0.033) and being pulled less frequently to cover other clinical services (p=0.013) were associated with a higher level of self-reported knowledge base. Forty-four participants (25.7%) were “Dissatisfied” or “Very dissatisfied” with the quality of the rotation, and the same number of participants (25.7%) reported dissatisfaction with the amount of time dedicated to the rotation. Satisfaction in the amount of time dedicated to the rotation was associated with decreased frequency of being pulled to other services (p=0.006), rotating greater than 45 days throughout residency (p<0.001), and rotating early in training (p=0.012). There was no association found between having a fellowship associated with the residency program and overall knowledge base or resident satisfaction. Experiencing formal didactics sessions during the rotation was associated with improved self-reported REI knowledge (p=0.027) and rotation satisfaction (p=0.002). The resident experience on the REI rotation is varied between residency programs. Fewer than half of residents reported being “Satisfied” or “Very Satisfied” with the quality of their rotation, and only one-third of OBGYN residents and recent graduates reported having a “Good” or “Excellent” knowledge base in REI-related topics.
