Optimization Strategy of VSG Active Power Fast Tracking Control Based on Power Command Feedforward Compensation

With the increasing penetration of new energy sources, new energy power generation converters often adopt virtual synchronous generator (VSG) control to achieve active voltage and frequency support, as well as stable operation under weak grid. However, the output active power response of VSG is slow, which makes it difficult to meet the fast tracking requirements of maximum power point and power scheduling instructions. The conventional voltage/current control mode switching scheme has problems such as unclear switching boundary and large power disturbance during the switching process. The fast-tracking control based on active power command feedforward compensation can speed up the power response, but reduces the system damping meanwhile, which tends to cause large power impact. To address this problem, an optimization strategy of VSG active power fast tracking control based on power command feedforward compensation is proposed in this paper, which not only further accelerates the power command following speed, but also increases the system damping to avoid power impact. Finally, a simulation platform is built and the active power fast following characteristics of VSG with different control strategies are compared, simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
