Estimating the Cooling-induced Electricity Demand at Industry and City-level

The sharp increase in peak electricity load due to the cooling needs in summer has become an important issue for demand-side management and could possibly lead to serious power shortage. The characteristics of cooling load for different industries could be significantly different, however it is usually difficult to directly measure the cooling-induced electricity demand. Hence, this paper proposes a cooling-induced electricity demand decomposition method and applies it to a case study in Xiamen, where the summer’s cooling demand is huge. The load-temperature correlations are firstly analyzed based on Xiamen’s electricity load data and meteorological data for in 2021 by the piecewise linear fitting method for the top 18 electricity consuming industries as well as the whole city in Xiamen. Then, the reference load is selected according to the correlations. So that the cooling-induced electricity demand can be obtained by using the summer electricity load data to minus the reference load.
