2-Port Planar MIMO Antenna with Polarization Diversity for Sub-6 GHz Fifth Generation Applications

In this communication, a novel 2-port MIMO antenna with LHCP/RHCP characteristics is presented for $\mathbf{5G}$ NR sub-6 GHz wireless applications band. A single unit of the proposed design is a modified L-shaped rectangular radiator with a Z-shaped slot loaded DGS. This unit makes up the whole of the proposed design. The MIMO configuration is accomplished by rotating a single unit around its x-axis such that it creates a mirror copy of itself. The most important aspects of the design that has been presented are as follows: (a) an impedance bandwidth (IBW) ranging from 3.0 to 4.2 GHz that covers the n77/n78 band; and (b) a 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) that ranges from 2.6 to 3.9 GHz (c) Polarization diversity is produced as a consequence of ports 1 and 2 independently producing RHCP and LHCP respectively. It has been shown that the suggested configuration is an appropriate design for a MIMO radiator since the various diversity performance characteristics are within the optimal range.
