•Digital health literacy was found to be adequate in a sample of undergraduate college students, but was not found to be associated with demographic variables.•Digital health literacy was found to predict whether a student used Government websites as a main source of COVID-19 information.•Digital health literacy was found to predict adherence to COVID-19 preventive behaviors.•Digital health literacy was not found to predict COVID-19 vaccine intentions.•High schools and colleges should include digital health literacy modules in their curriculums.
