Finite Element Simulation of a Six-phase Permanent Magnet Machine

This work presents the modeling of a six-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine using the finite element method and the ELMER software. The characteristics of the permanent magnet six-phase machine are first defined, followed by the definition of the stator and rotor geometry and the meshing process using the GMSH algorithm. The resulting mesh is then exported to the Elmer finite element program. A steady-state model is created to observe the results, which are then analyzed using the Paraview post-processing program. Subsequently, a transient simulation is generated to verify the accuracy of the magnetic flux obtained through the modeling process. Finally, the simulation results are exported to MATLAB for analysis of the electrical torque, stator currents, and voltages.
