Development of Partial Discharge Detection and Location System for Insulators of Overhead Distribution Lines Based on Ultrasound and Electromagnetic Wave

In order to solve the problem of low efficiency in partial discharge(PD) detection of existing technologies of insulators of overhead distribution lines, this paper conducts research on PD detection and location technology based on the combination of ultrasound and electromagnetic wave, and develops a corresponding detection system. Firstly, precise location of PD is achieved based on ultrasound and electromagnetic wave. The error between the proposed method and the traditional ultrasonic location method is compared and analyzed through simulation, verifying the superiority of the method based on ultrasound and electromagnetic wave with a maximum location error of less than 0.3m. Secondly, by using an ultrasonic concentrator, selecting suitable ultrasonic and electromagnetic sensors, and designing corresponding conditioning circuits, long-distance and high sensitivity detection of PD has been achieved. PD above 50pC can be effectively detected within a distance of 12m, and the delay estimation algorithm for PD signal has been implemented. Finally, the effectiveness of the developed PD detection system is verified through laboratory and on-site test.
