Simplified Test Method for Harmonic Characterization of Rogowski Coils Under Varying Temperatures

The need to monitor the power network is leading to a significant increase in the number of measurement points. These points consist of intelligent electronic devices and instrument transformers (or sensors). However, as the number of devices increases, so does the demand for their characterization and testing. With this in mind, this study aims to extend the field of applications of a new characterization procedure, that offers numerous benefits for manufacturers and system operators. These benefits include: (i) reducing testing time (thus lowering costs); (ii) simplifying the existing procedures; (iii) increasing the number of tested devices, which benefits the entire network. In particular, this work focuses on the harmonic characterization of Rogowski coils at various temperatures. To assess the accuracy and validity of the proposed solution, a commonly used testing procedure was employed as a reference. The experimental results obtained from the measurement campaign confirm the efficacy of the method, which can be easily extended to other frequency components and/or devices.
