Association of underlying untreated cardiovascular risk factors with mortality and functional outcome in ischaemic stroke patients

•Half of the Malaysian stroke patients had at least one risk factor not treated.•Atrial fibrillation was the most untreated risk factor before a stroke.•Patients with untreated risk factors had triple the odds of in-hospital death.•Untreated hypertension and atrial fibrillation were associated with more death.•Untreated prior stroke was associated with more disability.
