Experimental Studies on Particle Dampers with Energy Harvesting Characteristics

PurposeIn this paper, a particle damper with energy harvesting characteristics is used to control the vibration structure, and the relationship between control and energy capture is further studied.MethodsThrough a single-degree-of-freedom model experiment, the key parameters (harmonic excitation frequency, motion distance, particle filling ratio, and particle size) of vibration control and energy harvesting are investigated, and then the LED is powered.ResultsThe results show that vibration attenuation rate reaches maximum (14%) when the filling ratio of particles with a diameter of 15 mm is 60%. As the displacement increases, the vibration control effect tends to decrease, the energy collection effect tends to increase.ConclusionWith the same filling ratio (60%) and the same particle size (15 mm), for vibration control effect, as the frequency increases, the effect is reduced, and 0.4-0.5 Hz has the best effect; for energy harvesting, the effect increases as the frequency increases. In addition, the particle collision sound phenomenon is summarized. Weak and silent sounds are beneficial to the control effect, and strong sounds are harmful to the control effect.
