Using the microwave transmission line theory, a two-dimensional simulation algorithm was developed to simulate the indirect effect of lightning in the civil aircraft. It is a 2D code which represents a structure by a set of 2D cross sections, including appropriate skin resistances. A full threat lightning waveform (Component A defined using the SAE ARP5412B mathematical representation) is injected into the geometry and the code determines the current distribution within the geometry of each section, and calculates the induced voltage levels on open circuit wires as a function of position. The simulation results include the induced current and voltage on the airborne cable of each section. A more detailed overview of predicted induced currents, waveshapes and voltage contours is given later in the document. Maximum values are given, as these will be used to determine the worst case test levels.
