Assuring the Quality of Medical Services at a Medical Center in Romania

Assuring the quality of medical services is pursued by stakeholders: patients, medical staff, funders. The present paper aims to analyze the issue of quality assurance from the perspective of stakeholders, at a prestigious medical center from Romania and to make recommendations for improvement. Starting from the quality definition models in the healthcare system, the performances reported by the hospital management are analyzed, which are related to the quality assurance requirements within the hospital, after which the opportunities for improvement are identified. The organization chart of the hospital, the hospital addressability in the region, the causes of morbidity, the human resources of the hospital, adverse events associated with medical care, accreditation of the hospital by the national health quality management authority are all being analyzed. The results of this research highlight the need to analyze healthcare from the perspective of the two elements involved in obtaining patient satisfaction: technical/professional quality and interpersonal quality perceived by the patient, by controlling healthcare associated infections and specific measures to achieve compliance with deficient indicators.
