A Broadband Dielectric Resonator Antenna Array with High Gain

A broadband dielectric resonator antenna array is proposed in this communication. The antenna is composed of two antenna units and a feed network. The two antenna units are arranged at 0.5$\lambda$, where $\lambda$ is the free-space wavelength at the centre frequency. It is excited by a microstrip feed printed on the opposite side of the substrate having a dielectric constant of 2.25 and thickness of 0.7mm. A parametric study is performed for providing practical design guidelines. The simulation results indicate that an impedance bandwidth for VSWR $\le$ 2.0 from 7.8GHz to 14.1GHz is covered. Stable radiation pattern with high gain is maintained among the working frequencies. In addition, a flexural structure is devised to reduce the size of the antenna. Compared with the traditional broadband antenna, the antenna has a wide band and high gain. The results indicate that the electric characteristics of the antenna meet the application requirements in working frequency
