Google Scholar is the start of an important conversation about our role in providing comprehensive cancer care. The transformative forces observed in health care require us to continually revaluate and refocus our scope of practice, particularly as we seek to better train the next generation of radiation oncologists. I commend Dr Ennis for his insights. In Reply to ChowdhryPractical Radiation OncologyVol. 13Issue 3PreviewI thank Dr Chowdhry for his thoughtful and supportive comments regarding my recent editorial “Four Phenotypes of Radiation Oncologists and Their Effect on our Field and Future.”1 I agree that, should my suggestion be embraced, flexibility in the degree to which an individual physician, and the specialty as a whole, moves toward this model of care will be necessary based on the context, patient needs, physician needs and capabilities, and the evolving health care system. One can envision many hybrid approaches and different versions of what a radiation oncologist is and does once one seriously considers the implications of the arguments I put forward. Full-Text PDF
