摘要
Current staffing trends suggest that there could be a shortage of 200,000 to 450,000 nurses by 2025 in the United States which makes up 10% to 20% of the required workforce ( Berlin et al., 2022 Berlin, G., Lapointe, M., Murphy, M. & Wexler, J. (2022). Assessing the lingering impact of COVID-19 on the nursing workforce. https://www.mckinsey.com/industries/healthcare-systems-and-services/our-insights/assessing-the-lingering-impact-of-covid-19-on-the-nursing-workforce Google Scholar ). In many cases, nurses are entering the hospital environment with pressures beyond those previously experienced by new graduate nurses. Nurse residency programs (NRPs) have been used for years to ease transition into the practice setting and support professional development. These have been shown to have positive effects on retention, nurse confidence, knowledge, stress and job satisfaction. However, curriculum content and objectives can vary greatly, including the incorporation of evidence-based practice (EBP) education ( Edwards et al., 2011 Edwards D. Hawker C. Carrier J. Rees C. The effectiveness of strategies and interventions that aim to assist the transition from student to newly qualified nurse.
