Increasing Equitable Access to Training Opportunities: Introducing the National Training Seminar Series

This article reports on an innovative and creative training strategy: development and implementation of the National Training Seminar Series (NTSS) aimed at improving internship trainees' access to a range of didactic topics and speakers. The NTSS capitalized on programs' increased use of distance technologies to connect internship programs across Canada in its inaugural year, delivering five didactic seminars in the areas of social justice, antiracism, advocacy, social media ethics, and student-employee transition. In this article, we describe the development and implementation of the NTSS and report on the evaluation data provided by attendees, including a discussion of lessons learned along the way and limitations. Based on the positive response to the inaugural first year, the NTSS has continued to be offered to internship trainees and programs.
