Tooth surface modifications and dynamic performance analysis of gears

This paper optimized the profile of the involute spur gear towards the vibration and noise reduction based on gear dynamics performance. This approach was developed by optimizing the parameters like the amount of modifi-cation and the length of the modification in order to determine the modification curve. The optimal solution is verified with dynamic simulations, including the transmission error and the root-mean-square (RMS) value of vibration accelera-tion. The nonlinear finite element method is used to estimate the transmission error, and RMS of the vibration acceleration is calculated numerically, consider-ing the time-varying mesh stiffness and backlash, etc. Results proved that the modified gears lead to a better dynamic performance.
