Experimental assessment on an integral two-stage demister of coupling cyclonic separation and granular bed filtration

The gas-liquid separation performance of an integral two-stage demister of coupling cyclonic separation and granular bed filtration (abbr. CGB demister) was experimentally assessed in a pilot-scale water-air system and then compared to a conventional cyclone and a cyclone with built-in screens. Experimental results reveal that a low pressure drop and a high separation efficiency are simultaneously achieved in the CGB demister. The resistance coefficient of the CGB demister is merely 5.8, about 36.5% of that of the conventional cyclone. Under the moving bed operation with an initial granules circulation flux of Wsi = 0.27 kg/s, the outlet droplet concentration of the CGB demister could be remained stable and generally below 20 mg/m3. The influences of the circulation flux and the inlet gas velocity on the CGB demister were also analyzed. And a critical initial circulation flux (0.06 < Wsic < 0.27 kg/s) was observed, above which a continuous stable demisting operation could be maintained.
