•Innovative nanoparticles doped with methyl jasmonate were applied to Tempranillo.•Season had higher impact on the grape phenolic compounds than the applied treatments.•MeJ treatment promotes anthocyanin but not flavonol and flavanol synthesis in grapes.•ACP-MeJ slow release could favor the increase of flavonols, flavanols and stilbenes.•Nano MeJ application increase some phenolic compounds and reduce environmental impact.
