Power Management of Islanded Solar PV-Battery System for Submersible Pump Induction Motor and Local Loads

This work presents an effective control and power management of the system comprising of solar PV and battery assisted for submersible pump induction motor and single-phase inverter fed local loads for residential application. An intelligent power management scheme is developed for solar PV/battery system with robust and fast control of DC link voltage under all dynamic conditions. The perturb and observe MPPT algorithm utilized here charges the battery energy storage (BES) as per the PV power availability taking the battery SOC (state of charge) boundary conditions into consideration. The control strategy works for load follower mode (LFM) as per load demand and charging status of the battery. The bidirectional converter of battery reduces the battery size while regulating the DC link voltage. The presented system is validated through MATLAB/Simulink. This topology and its control are validated through test results.
