•We sought to understand how infant-toddler teachers’ wellbeing related to their teaching.•Teachers reported high levels of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and depression.•Individual ACEs and depression were associated with teachers’ work-related wellbeing.•Work-related wellbeing was associated with plans to continue teaching in child care centers.•Community ACEs and depression were associated with teachers’ support for toddlers’ learning.
