Development of an EQ-5D Value Set for India Using an Extended Design (DEVINE) Study: The Indian 5-Level Version EQ-5D Value Set

•This is the largest 5-level version EQ-5D (EQ-5D-5L) valuation study conducted so far worldwide and the first preference-based valuation study in the South Asia. The study was conducted using a novel design, in which a greater number of health states were directly valued and higher observations per health state were obtained than earlier EQ-5D-5L valuation studies. By developing the EQ-5D-5L value set for India, this study fills the long-existing evidence gap in the field of health technology assessment (HTA) in India.•The value set generated as a part of this study will help to correctly assess the quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) in Indian HTA studies. The value set will also be useful for clinicians undertaking studies to measure clinical effectiveness of interventions, epidemiologists to measure the burden of disease, and health economists to undertake economic evaluations.•The availability of the Indian EQ-5D-5L value set will facilitate the effective conduct of HTA in India and ensure affordable access to the healthcare for the 1.4 billion population of the world. It will streamline the systematic process for generating policy-relevant evidence that can inform policy decisions regarding health resource allocation. Conduct of credible, transparent, and robust HTA evidence will guarantee the maximum health out of the available resources and facilitate the achievement of universal health coverage (UHC) in India.
