The completeness of clinical follow-up was high at more than 98%, but periodic assessment of aortic valve function by echocardiography was only 60% at 10 years and less than 50% at 15 years. Based on these data, they identified preoperative aortic insufficiency (AI) and dilated aortic annulus as being associated with risk for development of AI over time. They concluded that “the David procedure provides excellent outcomes in selected patients.” Overall, their results were very good.
