摘要
The emergence of zoonotic diseases is a complex process but the surge in these infectious diseases is evident in modern era. The recent COVID-19 pandemic is one such example. This spillover of pathogens from animals to humans is somewhere linked to the destruction of the biodiversity. Nature provides every facility from life to wellbeing. Behind the curtains of development, excess human interferences have disturbed the balance of nature and increased the contact between human and wildlife allowing spreading of the pathogens globally. With time, modifications in the viral pathogens made through mutation and recombination can make them more virulent and capable to infect other species including humans. COVID-19 pandemic has given the lesson that the inexhaustible exploitation of the natural resources can lead to destructive consequences. Man made artificial systems may help in developing the new drugs; however, back to nature for nature-based solutions must be the priority to search for new remedial choices. Loss of biodiversity will consequently lead to loss of many important parts of nature including natural medicines and genetic diversity. Protection of biodiversity is must to slow down the risk of further pandemics as well as many other global health crises.
