Construction and Practice of Precision Teaching Model Incorporating “Big Idea”: Take the “Plants and Soil” Unit as an Example

Both big idea-based teaching and precision teaching are hot topics in educational research. The study aims to construct a precision teaching model incorporating “big ideas” and apply it in science education in middle school. The model includes before class, during class, and after class sections and it emphasizes pad-supported and student-centered teaching practice. Application of the model in a “Plants and Soil” Unit in 8th grade was proven to effectively improve students' academic performance. Finally, some strategies were put forward for applying this teaching model, including its prerequisite, guarantee, foundation, motivation, and sublimation
