摘要
This study implemented an education and training in tervention to reduce the incidence of dengue fever by controlling and preventing Aedesaegypti larva. The intervention was conducted in Toongsawan-Sripanya community and compared to acontrol community (Suwannachard community), located in Banleuam Sub-District, Muang District, Udonthani Province. Education and training was provided twice per month between August and December 2013. Aedesaegypti larva were surveyed in the communities once a month during the same period. Baseline larva measurements in Toonsawan-Sripanya community showed Housing Index (H.I.), Container Index (C.I.), and Breteau Index (B.I.) of 21.8%, 16.9%, and 54.6, respectively. Baseline measurements in the control community were similar (H.I., C.I., B.I.=20.0%, 19.0%, 40.0).Pre-intervention incidence of dengue fever in Toonsawan- Sripanya community and control community were21.89 and 16.4 per 100,000 population, respectively. The results showed that after providing education and training, time-averaged H.I. (6.2 %), C.I. (1.4 %), andB.I. (6.9%) decreased several magnitudes in the experimental community. Incidence (11.0 per 100,000 population) also decreased two-foldCompared to the control community, a statistically significant differences in all indexes of Aedesaegypti larva were observed (p-value < 0.001). This study demonstratedthat this education and training intervention may be effective in reducingaegyptilarva, which in turnreduces the incidence of dengue fever.
