摘要
Context and objective. Digestive ostomies are common practice, however; related data on children are scarce. The objective of the present study was to describe the indications and outcome of digestive ostomies. Methods. A 3-year descriptive cross sectional study was carried out at the Department of Pediatric Surgery of the Conakry University Hospital, Guinea. Patients aged 0 to 15 years who had benefited from digestive ostomies were included in the study. The parameters studied were frequency, age, sex, socioeconomic level, time to admission, indications, type of digestive stomy, the equipment, and postoperative procedures. Results. Of the 1,100 surgeries performed, 68 (6.2%) were digestive ostomies. The study population was predominantly male with a sex ratio of 2.5 and a mean age of 2.7 ± 2.3 years. The main indication of the procedure was the lack of an anal opening. The colostomy was the most performed type of ostomy; The plastic colostomy bag was the most used means of collecting stool from the digestive tract. The evolution was favorable in 61.7%. The majority of deaths occurred between the 1st and the 3rd day of admission. Conclusion. Digestive ostomies are frequently performed in the Conakry University Hospital. They mainly concern male infants, whose evolution is marked by high early mortality rate. Improving the management of the ostomy would require preoperative counseling, appropriate surgical technique, resuscitation and adequate equipment.
