摘要
Parasitic diseases cause symptoms that often incapacitate the individual in the performance of their normal activities. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the socioeconomic profile and quality of life of patients with intestinal protozooses treated in a university hospital. A cross-sectional observational study was carried out using the SF-36 quality of life questionnaire at the Laboratory of Clinical Analysis of the Lauro Wanderley University Hospital between February and August 2017. Of the 77 samples (52.38%), followed by Entamoeba histolytica / dispar (23.82%) and Entamoeba coli (19.04%) were analyzed. Most of the interviewees were female (76%), with an age group of over 30 (85.7%), incomplete elementary school (38.1%) and family income equal to a minimum wage (81%). Regarding the SF-36 quality of life questionnaire, the general health and pain domains showed the lowest averages: 50.19 and 59.14, respectively. The occurrence of intestinal protozooses has an impact on the quality of life of infected individuals, and it is necessary to invest in measures to control and prevent them.
