摘要
Introduction: It is apparent that pain occurs inevitably to the postoperative patients. Physical and mental suffering from pain affects tremendously both the patients and their relatives. At present, it is essential that pain assessment be implemented and recorded in addition to temperature, respiration, pulse and blood pressure. Adequate post-operative pain relief is considered a patient right. Poor postoperative pain control has adverse physical and psychological effect. Objective: To study the attitudes to pain and pain management in post general anaesthesia patients in the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital. Its purpose is to make the pain management effective and also to be a part to strengthen the development of hospital service quality. Methods: Prospective observational study design was used to collect data in 120 patients in Ramathibodi Hospital during June to July 2011. The 120 questionnaires about patients’ knowledge and attitude were asked in elective surgical and obstetric patients. Results: Almost all of the patients understood and were unafraid to express their pain. They additionally realized the importance of pain relief and also relied on their pain management provider, but conversely, the patients’ knowledge of pain management methods and techniques needed to be improved. Conclusions: The patients were likely to have good attitudes to postoperative pain management, but they still needed to learn more about pain management methods and techniques to help produce more quality.
