This work presents a Guiding Plan for the development of an investigative experimental activity towards to at the study of Organic Chemistry concepts in high school. The Guiding Plan "Chromophore groups and their relationship with color" is part of the educational product developed in the context of the PROFQUI of UFRGS. Through this plan it is possible to address the structural characteristics of some dyes, such as organic functions and chemical structures, electronic density, and polarity of molecules; intermolecular forces; physical properties; method of separating substances in a mixture (Paper and Column chromatography). In this article, we present the theoretical frameworks for the elaboration of investigative experiments with the purpose of developing higher order cognitive skills, such as selecting and evaluating information for problem solving, in addition to generalizing the topics studied in other contexts. The experiment presented in this work is classified according to the level of cognitive requirement required by the questions proposed to students as level 3. Regarding to the required participation of students to perform the experiment (the degree of freedom), it is classified in category V. Finally, a proposal is presented for the development of the stages of the Guiding Plan considering the reality of Chemistry in high school. We aim for students to understand the interferences of chemical structures and physical properties of pigments in interactions with the adsorbent and that they systematize the information obtained to solve the problem situation.
