Design of a smart lock system

The purpose of this work is to present the design development process of an exemplary Smart Lock (SL) device. The scope of the presented study concerns modeling using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software and laboratory tests as well as prototyping the control module (CM) module. Detecting the position of the actuating mechanism (plunger) was by monitoring the solenoid coil inductance. Therefore, coil inductance measurements were required with respect to the position of the plunger at various conditions of the AC component supply voltage. The energy saving and position monitoring functions were realized by using a micro controller with actuating elements. The proposed solution of the control module can be extended to other locking systems. It allows for the CM extension with new features and ensures connectivity with building automation systems.
