El feminismo oculto entre el músculo y la vida social: Los inicios del deporte femenino en españa (1911-1915)

espanolEn este articulo nos centramos en el periodo de 1911 a 1915, en torno a los Juegos Olimpicos de Estocolmo (1912) y los Juegos de Berlin de 1916 que no llegaron a convocarse. Analizamos una etapa crucial para la educacion fisica, la higiene, la salud y el deporte en Espana, desde la perspectiva de la implicacion de la mujer en la educacion fisica y las primeras practicas deportivas femeninas. El analisis se basa en las publicaciones Stadium y El Explorador Espanol, porque ambas comparten el compromiso de divulgar el deporte, reflexionar sobre las consecuencias de la educacion fisica y tratan de crear un relato sobre el deporte en el periodo previo al deporte de masas. Estamos ante el momento fundacional de las infraestructuras y en la genesis de una cultura que rapidamente se convertira en referente de la modernidad. Constatamos una presencia viva de la mujer en las primeras manifestaciones de educacion fisica y en las deportivas. Las publicaciones especializadas son consecuentes con el rol de la mujer en la modernidad, como madre, educadora, consumidora de ocio y practicante de los nuevos deportes modernos. Plantemos dos cuestiones basicas: por una parte, el papel que se la asigna a la mujer en la educacion fisica y el deporte, y por otra el propio debate que abren las publicaciones deportivas sobre la relacion de la mujer con el deporte, en una primera fase incipiente para el deporte en general y sobre el feminismo deportivo. El deporte femenino tuvo una cierta visibilidad en Espana, a pesar del analisis pesimista generalizado sobre el peso de la educacion fisica en el sistema escolar. Las industrias deportivas modernas reclaman la presencia de la mujer. EnglishThat article focuses on the period 1911 to 1915, on the Olympic Games in Stockholm (1912) and the Olympic Games in Berlin of 1916 that were not convened. It is analysed a crucial stage for physical education, hygiene, health and sport in Spain, from the perspective of the involvement of women in physical education and the first women’s sport practices. The analysis is based on the publications Stadium and El Explorador Espanol, because both of them share the aim to disseminate the sport, to reflect on the consequences of physical education, and to try to create a narrative about sport in the period before mass sport. That is the foundational moment of the infrastructures and the genesis of a culture that will quickly become a model for modernity. It is noticed a high presence of women in the first manifestations of physical education and sports. The specialized publications are consistent with the role of women in modernity, as a mother, educator, leisure consumer, and practicant of new modern sports. Two basic questions are contemplated: on the one hand, the role assigned to women in physical education and sports, and on the other hand, the debate that sport publications open on the relationship of women with sports, in a first and incipient phase for sports in general and about womens’s sports. Women’s sports had a certain visibility in Spain, despite the pessimistic generalized analysis of the weight of physical education in the school system. Modern sports industries claim the presence of women.
